Pirates vs. Strasburg = Outlook Not So Good

ESPN Accuscore gives the Pirates only a 30% chance of beating Stephen Strasburg in his Nationals debut tonight:

The Vegas odds aren’t much kinder, putting the Bucs down as approximate 2:1 underdogs:

Dag gumm numbers! All that matters is whut happens on the danged FIELD, ya heahhh???

Meaning, the Pirates will probably lose. But I’ll be pulling for them in their first National TV appearance since the much-hyped professional debut of Pie Traynor (approximately).

For Strasburg, I think they’ll go super conservatively with him, and he’ll finish with 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R (both unearned), 1 BB, 7 K. As long as the Bucs can keep the game close enough to get Matt Capps’ linebacker neck jiggling outta that Nats bullpen, they’ve certainly got a shot.

Pretty good guess, really, apart from the strikeouts. What’s amazing is that he got to 14 without getting anybody more than twice against a lineup that only had one pinch-hit plate appearance.
